Caio Paulista should be a Palmeiras player in 2024; understand the scenario

The 25-year-old left-back scored five goals in 50 games for San Paolo in 2023, where he was on loan from Fluminense

Palmeiras have a clear path to agreeing the signing of Caio Paulista. The left-back was at San Paolo on loan from Fluminense last season.

The stay at Morumbi was considered practically certain, but the deal was blocked when the Tricolor Paulista expressed the desire to activate the fixed purchase clause provided for in the contract, worth 3.5 million euros (R$ 18.7 millions).

The council of Sao Paulo, in fact, had already advanced the installment payment for the athlete’s signature to the residents of Rio. But the scenario has changed.

At the same time, news emerged that Palmeiras had consulted Fluminense and the player’s representative, Eduardo Uram, on the conditions for completing the deal. Verdão also signaled the possibility of paying a higher amount than his state rival.

Palmeiras, in fact, recently reached an agreement with Eduardo Uram for the purchase of striker Bruno Rodrigues, who becomes the second reinforcement already announced by the club.

San Paolo, however, has suspended negotiations with Caio Paulista and will not discuss any conversation with the 25-year-old player to change the situation. The information comes from André Hernan, of ‘Uol’. The full-back was one of the flagships of the team led by Dorival Júnior, with 50 appearances, five goals and two assists. One of the goals even contributed to Palmeiras’ elimination from the Copa do Brasil.

Caio Paulista should arrive at Verdão to shadow Piquerez as starter. But the purchase will also be a way to avoid problems on the left wing, given that the Uruguayan athlete is appreciated on the market and could have a chance in European football. With Jorge leaving for Santos, the other option in the squad is Vanderlan’s silver.
