The minister highlighted the excessive number of civilian victims, but criticized Hamas
On Wednesday (27) the Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani said that Israel’s reaction towards Hamas must be “proportionate” and that there are many civilian victims in Gaza, but accused the Islamic fundamentalist group of exploiting the population to obtain consensus.
In an interview with the local press, Tajani also defended the two-state solution, “of course with Hamas out of the Gaza Strip.”
“The compass must be a proportional reaction, reaching out to Hamas, sending Hamas out of Gaza and achieving peace, perhaps with the interregnum of a United Nations presence in the territory,” the Foreign Minister said.
“There are many dead Palestinian civilians, but it is also true that Hamas uses the civilian population to provoke a reaction in the Arab world. We have always told our Israeli friends that a proportional reaction is necessary”, reiterated Tajani.
The deputy prime minister also warned that it was necessary to avoid a “conflict between Jews, Christians and Muslims” or between “East and West”. “There is a terrorist organization that wanted to prevent an agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia,” he said.
The Israeli attacks in Gaza have already caused around 21,000 deaths, according to local authorities, and represent a reaction to the attacks committed by Hamas on October 7, which caused 1,200 victims. .
