The actor of the Oscar-winning film Parasite has died at the age of 48

Sun-kyun Lee, actor who played Park Dong-ik in Parasite, the 2020 Oscar-winning film, was found dead in a car on Tuesday night (26) — Wednesday morning (27) — in South Korea. According to Reuters, Lee was found unconscious next to charcoal briquettes. The cause of death was not revealed.

According to Yonhap news agency, when questioned by police about his drug use, Lee said he was tricked into using drugs by a bar hostess under conditions of blackmail.

Born in 1975, the actor became famous after acting Parasite, film directed by South Korean Bong Joon-ho. The film won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Director in 2020. The production follows the story of two families from very different social classes.

Lee also played leading roles Helpless2012 thriller and All about my wife2014, among others.

Parasite was inspired by the director’s life

In 2022, Bong Joon-ho revealed how he drew inspiration from his own life to create the script Parasite. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director said that he experienced a very important moment in the history of the film. Check it out here!
