Amazon announced that Prime Video, the company’s movie and series streaming service, will officially start showing ads on January 29th. According to The Verge, the company sent an email to subscribers announcing the change, which should initially only affect the US, UK, Germany and Canada.
This will allow us to continue to invest in engaging content and grow that investment over a long period of time. Our goal is to have significantly fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required on your part and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership.

Also according to the statement, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Australia are expected to get advertising support by the end of next year, as well as access to the ad-free subscription option. Information about the plans in Brazil was not disclosed.
Prime Video currently costs $14.99 (about R$72) per month or $139 per year in the United States. The arrival of the ads will change the cost to $18 and increase the cost of the individual plan to $12 (from $8.99).
It’s worth noting that Amazon streaming is just another platform joining the growing list of platforms that have embarked on a strategy of raising fees through advertising investments. Disney Plus, Hulu, Max (HBO Max), Netflix and Paramount Plus already include advertisements in their most affordable subscription tiers.
