Saltburn on Prime Video: stroke of genius or scam of the year? The audience decided

Whether it’s for its amazing scenes or its nudity, Saltburn is on everyone’s lips. The second film from up-and-coming female director Emerald Fennell stars Barry Keoghan and Jacob Ellord in a bombastic thriller about desire, obsession and manipulation.

The story follows the meeting of two students at Oxford University. When Felix Oliver, the son of an aristocratic family, is invited to spend the summer at his parents’ house, the vacation turns into a real nightmare.

Between the unusual bathroom scene – which is very popular on social media – and the sweet end of the pop music, Saltburn is the subject of many conversations. But what about its quality? If the American press is quite cheerful, the French press is much more divided.

AlloCiné has a press rating of 2.7 out of 5. magazine CinemaTeaser talking about a movie like “Twisted nastiness and a sense of fun“, Le Figaro one”A devastating and opulent gothic tale“, but Პirveli points to project”As shimmering and hollow as the world depicted on it“, as Parisian Who does not mince words:

A poor film, even a terrible one, that pretends to be transgressive by mixing in sex, drugs, class struggle and various depravities when it’s just poor pseudo-criticism biting its own tail.

Good or bad movie?

On the viewer side*, feedback is also divided. Laya (5 out of 5) thinks the film is “Extremely unpleasant and extremely sulphurous, fascinating from start to finish“. Proud R. (4 out of 5) thinks it is “with mastery and suppression“.

Same story for Cinetim (4.5 out of 5) who writes: “Finely crafted, Saltburn is a deliciously unhealthy and delightful dance of deathNath0301 (4 of 5) adds:The script is not very original, but the treatment of the story, the beauty of the pictures and the charm of its performers make this film very successful..”

For the less certain, like Naughty Dog (3 out of 5), “The whole thing stands, but is sadly imperfect due to the bloated, superficial and sometimes grotesque appearance that represents the 1%.“Sandra S. (3 out of 5) regrets it”Some scenes are so exciting that they are impossible to watch“.

BMWC (1.5 out of 5) criticizes the film “ Let the gothic promises of its first moments evaporate“.”The pride of the director, boosted by the success of his first film or the vampirism of the platforms that dry up their talent, the fact is that it is a failure.“, he claims.

To make up your own mind, Saltburn is available on Prime Video.
