Mamonas Assassinas becomes the biggest national debut since the pandemic

Killer Mamonas – The Movie It just hit theaters and is already picking up headlines. The biopic, which will tell the story of the rise of one of the most important bands of the Brazilian music scene, premiered last Thursday (28) and recorded the largest opening for a national film since the start of the pandemic, in 2020.

Directed by Edson Spinello, Killer Mamonas – The Movie shows the upward trajectory and short period of a resounding success of five guys from Guarulhos who sang and enjoyed comic and alternative rock, mixed with influences of popular genres.

In the cast, Ruy Brissac plays Dinho, the famous singer. Besides him, the group has Alberto Hinoto (Bento), Robson Lima (Júlio Rasec) Adriano Tunes (Samuel Reoli) and Rener Freitas (Sergio Reoli) playing the other band members.

Killer Mamonas – The Movie is already shown in Brazilian cinemas.

At the height of their career, a tragic plane crash in the Serra da Cantareira in March 1996 took the lives of all the band members, causing national uproar. The group was one of the pioneers of the comedy rock genre in Brazil and, even after 27 years, continues to be remembered by fans, as well as influencing the national music scene.

According to the Brazilian Association of Music and Arts (Abramus), Mamonas Assassinas’ only album, released in 1990, is among the best-selling of all time in Brazil.
