The Varilux French Film Festival kicks off its 2022 edition this Tuesday (21/6) with a program of 17 films, which will be screened in 92 cinemas in 50 cities until 6 July.
In addition to the films, the event will see the participation of 11 international guests and a novelty: the inclusion of series.
The 17 feature films are unprecedented in Brazil, bringing together award-winning films at international festivals and box office hits in France.
Not all directors are French. Twice Oscar winner, Iranian Asghar Farhadi is present in the selection with a French co-production: “A Hero”, winner of the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.
Also in the list is “The Event”, by Audrey Diwan, winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2021, “Contratempos”, by Eric Gravel, awarded at the Orizzonti in Venice, “A Little Great Plan”, directed and starring Louis Garrel, and “Peter Von Kant”, the latest film by François Ozon, screened this year at the Berlin Film Festival.
Also on the program are two works chosen as tributes: “Santa Claus is a Pickaxe” (1982), by Jean-Marie Poiré, who turns 40, and “The Adventures of Molière” (2007), by Laurent Tirard and Ariane Mnouchkine, in occasion of the 400th anniversary of the birth of the famous French playwright.
The list of French film professionals who will be present at the Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo sessions includes director Eric Gravel, of “Contratempos”, and actor Gilles Lellouche, who has three films scheduled: “O Destino de Hoffman “,” Kompromat “and the hit” Goliath “, one of the biggest box offices in France in 2022.
To complete, the episodes of seven unreleased series will also be screened in Brazil: “Cheyenne and Lola”, “As Sentinelas”, “Games of Power”, “What Pauline Doesn’t Say”, “Opera”, “Syndrome E” and “A rope”. The sessions are free, but they will present only the first two chapters of each of the productions and only in Rio and São Paulo.
