Desire: the power of desires | 5 reasons to watch the new Disney animation

Wish: The Power of Wishes hits theaters on January 4 with a plot full of Easter eggs that reference other Disney characters.

Studies Disney celebrated 100 years in 2023 and, to celebrate the date, decided to launch Desire: the power of desires, an animation that shows how the shooting star was born, responsible for satisfying the requests of numerous other characters of the brand, such as, for example, Pinocchio, the wooden doll that came to life. And, although the film arrives in Brazil only in January 2024, the Mickey Mouse company has already invested heavily in advertising to promote the work which is sold as one of the studio’s most important.

In the plot, Star (as she is called) appears after young Asha asks heaven for help in dealing with the Magnificent King, an evil sorcerer who collects the wishes of the citizens of the Rose Kingdom and grants only those he wishes for. she wants.

It is with this unprecedented premise and a pinch of nostalgia that the studio’s 62nd animated film promises to bring young and old alike to cinemas in early 2024. But will the film have any chance of pleasing Brazilians? Discover some reasons why it’s worth buying tickets for the film celebrating Disney’s centennial.

5. Easter eggs that reference old movies

Anyone who participates Wish You’ll notice that the film has several Easter eggs reminiscent of old Disney movies. The clearest of these is that the heroine Asha has seven friends alluding to Snow White’s seven dwarfs.

One of them keeps sneezing, which reminds me of Atchim; the other is always sulky, no matter what happens, he is Grumpy; and the other is sleepy and without energy to do anything, it is Soneca.

Asha, on the other hand, wears a blue cloak with a lilac bow that is very reminiscent of the one worn by the Fairy Godmother, from Cinderella. And by the way, she also gets a magic wand and is elected “fairy” of the kingdom, a clear allusion to the character. Anyone who takes a good look at Star’s face will also notice that her facial expressions are reminiscent of Mickey Mouse – after all, they were created based on iconic Mickey Mouse scenes and moments.

For Disney fans, these references only make the story even more interesting and entertaining, and it’s clear that the company created the film as a way to honor its legacy. So much so that, when the credits roll, several characters appear in gold in the corner of the screen. There’s Pooh, Cinderella, the Tramp (from The Lady and the Tramp) and many others.

4. A fairy tale without a prince

Little Asha doesn't need a prince to save her. (Image: Disclosure/Disney)

Another reason why the film deserves a chance with audiences is that it avoids the cliché so often used by Disney, the romantic film in which the princess is saved by the prince and receives a passionate kiss. This stereotype only reinforces the fact that women should always wait for men to save them from harm. And although this structure has since been broken frozen, It’s nice to see the film celebrate its centenary without wanting to pay homage to the past by repeating an already dated formula.

Here Asha is not even a princess, but a teenager on the verge of turning 18 who fights for what she wants and for the people she loves. Without fear of what might happen to her, she faces the Magnificent King and manages, only with Star’s help, to change the reality of those who live in her kingdom.

And there’s more: without going into spoilers here, it’s worth saying that the ending reinforces female empowerment.

3. Valentine the goat

Anyone who loved Shrek must have been enchanted by Wish's goat. (Image: Disclosure/Disney)

Knowing that Donkey Shrek is one of the most endearing characters DreamWorks has ever created, Disney even decided to create an annoyingly talkative little animal to call their own. Only, this time, instead of the donkey we have a very cute and funny goat who is responsible for practically all the comic moments of the attraction. And of course she is always by the girl’s side, to help her with everything she needs from her.

Therefore, who liked it Shrek you have to like it Wishespecially this truly special participation by Valentino.

2. The Brazilian dubbing

Who will watch Wish Dubbed into Portuguese, you will surely be even more enchanted by the characters. This is because, to give them a voice, a strong team was chosen with Marcelo Adnet (Valentino, the goat), Di Ferrero (Owl), Alcione (Mother Tree), Evelyn Castro (Sania), Solange Almeida (Female Squirrel) and Xande . de Pilares (Turtle).

Some have a small participation and only appear singing the song. You’re a star. This is the case of the Mother Tree, which stands out when Alcyone lets out his great voice in the song. Good choice!

1. The illustration that mixes watercolor and 3D technique

Wish innovates in animation techniques and delivers a beautiful film to watch. (Image: Disclosure/Disney)

Last but not least, the way the animation Wish was built is one of the great innovations launched by Disney, and also one of the main reasons why audiences rush to the cinema. This is because the illustration deviates from what was already expected and mixes 3D techniques with the watercolor style.

In this way the film continues to have a modern look, but also gives the viewer the feeling of watching a classic on VHS, like that of Mermaid or the beloved Winnie the Pooh. And even the most inattentive will notice that the film mixes different textures to create depth, shadows, etc.

Obviously all this deserves to be seen on the big screen! Remembering that the film will premiere on January 4th.
