Alain Delon will sue his son for revealing his health condition

Legendary French actor Alain Delon plans to sue his son for revealing his physical and mental deterioration in an interview. Anthony Delon, the actor’s eldest son, gave an interview to Paris Match magazine this week about his father’s health, saying he was very weak and had difficulty dealing with his limitations. According to him, the 88-year-old actor “can no longer bear to see himself like this, belittled”.

The biggest heartthrob of French cinema of the 1960s and 1970s, when he starred in such classics as “The Sun for Witness” (1960), “The Leopard” (1963) and “The Pool” (1969), Delon suffered from a severe stroke in July 2019 and, since then, he rarely leaves the property where he lives in Douchy, in the Loire region, France. In March 2022 he declared that he had opted for assisted suicide, legal in Switzerland, but he did not go through with it.

“He doesn’t talk much, it tires him or irritates him when we make him repeat himself, because his voice is not always clear or audible,” Anthony Delon said in the interview, describing his father’s condition. In the conversation he also stated that it was perhaps his “last Christmas”, and explained that his father underwent five cognitive tests between 2019 and 2022, without passing any of them.

Anthony accuses his half-sister Anouchka of hiding their father’s deterioration, which would be worrying because “the results showed cognitive degradation that puts my father in a position of psychological weakness and therefore vulnerability.”

The reactions of father and sister

After publication, Delon’s lawyer said the actor was “extremely shocked by his son Anthony’s statements” and will file a complaint against him. According to a note from Christophe Ayela, the actor “cannot stand the aggression of his son Anthony, who continues to say he is senile”, and what is even “more shocking” is that his son “claims to have experienced his life last Christmas”.

Anouchka also released a statement through the same lawyer, saying her half-brother’s comments were “abject,” adding that she would file charges against Anthony for defamation, slander, threats and harassment.

Delon ended his career in 2019, when he last appeared on screen in the comedy “Toute Ressemblance”, playing himself. In the same year he was awarded the Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement at the Cannes Film Festival. He was subsequently seen again only at the funeral of his great friend and colleague Jean-Paul Belmondo, which took place in Paris in September 2021.
