After the surprise success of Antoinette in The Seventies, Laure Kalam returns to the period in the delightful comedy Iris and Men.

The comedy of the sun (and the animal, with the irresistible donkey Patrick!) Antoinette dans les Cévennes, released for cinema in the context of a disaster, defied all predictions and established itself as one of the successes of the year: an excellent press rating of 4. 5, from 800,000 admissions (8th of 2020 France’s greatest success) and a César to end this film’s extraordinary career!

For their reunion, the actor and the filmmaker change scenery. Scenes of Parisian life replaced the greenery of the Cevennes. However, innovation and humor are always at the heart of this sparkling and fashionable comedy. Features highlighted by viewers who liked the movie. But the response has been mixed. Catherine (5/5): “With great precision and laughter. There is no cliché, this is Iris struggling to find a vital impulse, she tries and tries to make sex in its place, fun, vital and tender. Laur pen bright. Vincent Elbaz with great precision in this portrait of a father lost in the swell of fatherhood.”

John (4/5): “Just a funny movie, presented as usual by the excellent Laure Kalam, with the beautiful and feminine eye of Caroline Vinyal. Surprisingly, it is inflated, but above all, tender is incomparable. Special mention to Suzanne de Baek who was hilarious as the dental assistant.“

Thomas Charles (4.5/5):First, we need to stop making comparisons to Antoinette in Sevens, even if they share the same actor and director. The film deals with a very different and innovative topic: dating apps and their impact on couples, seen from a woman’s point of view. Against the very negative discourse about sexuality that permeates our time and is completely justified after the Me Too wave, this film has the courage to show stealthy, consensual relationships that are often funny in their awkwardness. Laure Calami perfectly portrays this woman who begins and flourishes without avoiding unnecessary attitudes and comments. And what can we say about the finale, which opens many avenues for reflection!“

Stefan (3/5): “The amiable and talented Lor Kalam saves the film from its obvious lack of rhythm, a good idea without further and bad production (a musical moment I won’t reveal could have had more punch than this choreography from afar. That little voice). Some good times though. “
