It is one of the most famous manga in the world and its longevity commands respect. First published in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on April 13, 1981, Captain Tsubasa prepares to play his last soccer match, as confirmed by series creator Yoichi Takahashi in a letter published in the magazine’s official manga.
In his text, the mangaka talks about health problems, but also about the decision made in response to the evolution of the manga industry in Japan. But the author is not going to leave the world of football, especially since the latter also specifies that the characters of Captain Tsubasa will continue to exist in different forms.
Yoichi Takahashi is now set to devote himself to managing his own soccer team, Nankatsu SC. With the ambition of taking this amateur team to the J-League, the first division of Japan’s professional championship!
Who knows, the author’s popularity will not allow the club to attract world-famous football players like Kylian M’Bappe, the muse of the collaboration organized in 2018 between captain Tsubasa’s license and the French men’s team. Or former OM player Yuto Nagatomo. Who appeared during the special episode?

The Captain Tsubasa manga inspired the popular cartoon Olive and Tom, which has been revisited in recent years with a reboot on Crunchyroll (two seasons). Several manga sequels have seen the light of day, including Captain Tsubasa: World Youth and more recently Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun, which follows the adventures of our young heroes in high-level European teams.
