It could have been a double whammy for Julia Roberts. Although the American star is breaking records on Netflix with his latest film The World After Us, he was supposed to star in another production that is also popular on the platform at the moment: Double Trap.
Did you like Double Trap? Here are 3 other Harlan Coben series for you to stop by!
This thriller, adapted from Harlan Coben’s novel, is currently one of the most-watched series on the platform, behind Berlin, a spin-off from La Casa de Papel. We follow the story of Maya, an ex-soldier who suddenly sees on a spy camera her husband whom she thought was murdered, she discovers a murder plot that has been hatched in the past.
Before it became a TV series, Double Trap was supposed to be a movie. In 2016, when Cobain’s book hit the shelves, Julia Roberts discovered it and absolutely wanted to produce an adaptation: “This is an exceptional story driven by a strong female character” He will let you know. It’s not the first time an American author’s novels have been brought to the cinema – there was Tell No One in 2006 and One Chance Too Many in 2015 – and that the recipe has worked.
Unfortunately for Julia Roberts, the project will not go forward in its direction. Because instead of making a movie, Cobain favors a small screen format so as not to lose any of the story that is spread over 400 pages. Which does not suit the former beautiful woman who preferred to leave the place.
We will have to wait until 2023, 7 years after the project was announced, to see the adaptation of Double Trap see the light of day. Cobain eventually joined Netflix — which has signed 14 series adapted from his novels — to produce it. Julia Roberts aside, British actress Michelle Keegan has finally been cast as Maya…
