With the announcement of a sequel to Plus belle la vie, early fans who have followed the series for more than 18 years know: they will have to face a lot of changes.
New actors, new settings… TF1 decided to bring modernity to this flagship program. And among the major changes is the Place du Mistral.
This square was, in fact, the nerve center of the series, with the characters regularly crossing paths. But after the end of the series, the filming of Place du Mistral, which was located at the Belle de Mai studio in Marseille, was completely destroyed for the new filming.
Instead of trying to restore the location, the production decided to move the intrigue to a new location located in the city of Allauch, next to Marseille. Therefore, the authors of Plus belle la vie, encore plus belle had to find a plot to justify this change of scenery.
Why did the heroes leave the Place du Mistral?
The first arch of Plus belle la vie, the encore plus belle, therefore helps explain the disappearance of the Mistral bar. “We have an important event that will kick off the series“- explained producer Clementine Planchon.
“In the first arc, we explain why we are going to leave the Mistral in the vicinity and why the residents have gathered elsewhere, not far away, still in the same neighborhood, but in the new square a few blocks away.”
It is therefore the destruction that threatens the safety of the houses in the old place, which prompts them to move. “For a year they tried to rebuild and it was Thomas who created a new momentum by opening a new bar. His inauguration is also the trigger for the first episode. Former residents are happy to return to life after difficult events for them.“
A new location that will also reunite many characters from the new medical office that Gabrielle, Leah and Babette work in and the new police station will also be located in this new location.
Watch the first episode of Plus belle la vie, even plus belle this Monday, January 8 at 1:40pm on TF1. From this date, episodes will be available to preview on the TF1+ streaming platform.
