After waiting for more than a year and a half, John Nolan is preparing to return to television. This Saturday, January 6, M6 will indeed broadcast in France the first 3 episodes of the new 4th season of The Rookie: Los Angeles Cop, a police series adapted from a true story that follows the adventures of the most popular rookie LAPD chief.
While the Season 3 finale left us in complete suspense with the kidnapping of Angela (Alyssa Diaz) on her wedding day, the first episode sees Officer Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and his entire team race against time to save the young woman. And the child she carries.
The iconic character is leaving the series
The first episode of season 4 of The Rookie is the scene of the departure of Jackson West’s interpreter, Titus Mackin Jr. The actor actually decided to leave the series at the end of season 3 and thus made a brief appearance in this new season.
If the producer did not give an official reason, the actor himself would make the decision to leave the series. He actually revealed it during the interview Entertainment Weekly In 2020, he hesitated to leave The Rookie after learning of the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, who had launched the Black Lives Matter movement at the time.
“I woke up one morning and was watching the news and thought, “I can’t do this. I can’t play a cop on a show and not talk about being a black cop” he explained at the time. He then spoke with Alex Hawley, The Rookie’s showrunner.
“I said, “If you want me to go, I will.” I would rather leave than ignore this reality and not tell this story.” Ultimately, The Rookie writers combined police brutality and racism in Season 3, which kept Titus Mackin Jr. on the show.
But we have to believe that he finally decided to end his adventure, as his character meets a tragic fate in the first episode of season 4.
Catch season 4 of The Rookie this Saturday 6th January from 9.10pm on M6. The first 3 seasons are now available on Netflix.
