We have seen Patriot masturbate from the rooftops of buildings and, more recently, being masturbated by an almost vegetal Stormfront about to commit suicide. Use this little context, and that’s not even talking about the craziest sex scene in television history, to say that there are already few sexual things that the Amazon Prime Video series can surprise us with. But they have succeeded, and they have done so with an unexpected cameo.
After the surprise appearance of Charlize Theron (Marvel’s recent signing if we look at the post-credits of ‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’) in the opening scene of the season, it was Seth Rogen’s turn in the chapter 5.
As the gang follows in Soldier Boy’s footsteps, they first try to find the Crimson Countess, his former lover. We see her, in her trailer, in some kind of private sex cam session with a shirtless Rogen that he’s eager to get on the subject.
Just when the Countess started to turn him on and he began his onanistic activity full of gel, Butcher interrupts the connection by arresting her. However, the character of Rogen, already very involved in the subject, reaches the climax without remedy. The truth is that the exploitation of superheroines in an Onlyfans-like sexual way is another nod to our world and to the different internet celebrities, whether they are singers, rappers, influencers or streamers, who also create their own adult content, sometimes explicitly sexual.
Eric Kripke, the showrunner of the series, spoke about this cameo with DigitalSpyhow it was filmed and how it got into Rogen’s hands (the double meaning was not intended).
We shot Seth’s cameo at their offices in Los Angeles as the last thing to be filmed for season 3 because it was done many weeks after we finished production. And the truth is, we had a whole list of people we wanted for masturbation. Some wild names were thrown around. Really wild, wild names, really. I’m not really going to name anyone! But some really big names. For some reason, I don’t know why, the biggest stars don’t want to masturbate on camera. It’s strange. It’s just weird. And we keep going down the list. And then it started to become kind of an inside joke because as we were crossing people off, I was like, “Okay, Seth, we’re two or three names away from you having to step in and introduce yourself here.” And finally, I emailed him and said, “I need you to get on this please.” And like a good, brave executive producer, he really stepped up and did it for the whole team. And he is very funny in it. I don’t know if you knew this, but he’s funny. I wasn’t sure if you knew. It turns out that Seth Rogen is good at comedy, and I’m glad I did and was able to show the world that.
Until now, the thing about stars acting as executive producers of programs seemed to us something a bit honorary, more to endorse with your name than with your work. Now Seth Rogen has given us an example of the opposite.
