It seems that not only cinema is moving towards its original status before the Covid pandemic, but also programs related to the film market. According to Deadline, the 2024 Golden Globes had the highest ratings since 2020, with a 50% increase on CBS’ ibope, the channel that officially broadcasts the event, compared to 2023.
In short, the 2024 Golden Globes easily surpassed the 2021 Golden Globes, which had just 6.9 million viewers. Despite the improvement in the scenario, however, the audience is still far from what was seen in 2020, which had 18.3 million televisions tuned in.
Still, the small jump is seen as a win for CBS and the Golden Globes, as the 2023 audience was the lowest in the awards’ history: 6.3 million people watched.
It’s worth mentioning that the Golden Globes aren’t the only awards show to face declining viewership in recent years. The Emmy Awards also recorded their worst audience in 2022, as did the Oscars, which, despite having reached 20 million viewers last year, decreased significantly compared to the 40 million they recorded in the last decade.
