Netflix: Ad-supported plan surpasses 23 million users

By all accounts, Netflix’s ad-supported subscription plan is a success. According to streaming advertising manager Amy Reinhard, the option already has more than 23 million monthly active users, just over a year after its launch.

Of Netflix customers with ad-supported plans, 85% stream on the platform for more than two hours a day.

Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s head of publicity, told Variety at CES 2024.

It’s worth noting that a recent Insider Intelligence report revealed that Netflix is expected to be ahead of Disney+ in 2024 in terms of advertising revenue. The success, according to the analysis, is based on rising prices and a controversial crackdown on password sharing. Strategies that actually attracted more viewers to your plan with ads.

We are very fortunate to be able to have a long-term perspective on this topic. Expanding our business is absolutely our biggest priority right now, but we want to make sure we’re doing it in a way that’s meaningful to members.

Reinhard took over the reins of Netflix’s advertising business in October last year, shortly after the departure of Jeremi Gorman, who left streaming after just over a year at the company.

In Brazil, the standard plan with advertising costs R$18.90, while the standard plan without advertising costs almost double that amount. Check prices here, which have been adjusted again in October 2023.
