Noboa, however, did not provide details on how much the new prison complexes will cost or when the prison units will be ready.

According to the latest report from the Snai (National Prisoner Assistance Service), Ecuador is experiencing overcrowded prison conditions, which currently have around 31 thousand prisoners for 27 thousand places. The South American country has a population of 18 million inhabitants.
