What if almost fifteen years after the very first episode of The Walking Dead aired, a new adaptation of the famous comic came out? It’s a dream that many fans hold, and an animated version that takes the graphic aspect of the comics (and the choice of black and white) has received the support of the creator of the franchise, Robert Kirkman.
Kill Rick
The latter encouraged the writers of the live-action series to take liberties with his comics, even allowing them to kill off the program’s main character, Rick Grimes. Thus, the end of the series (at the end of its 11th season) diverged greatly from the original work.
The new adaptation will allow us to see a version that this time will be more faithful to the comics, so as not to conflict with the chronology of the Walking Dead TV universe. Many spin-offs actually saw the light of day after the series ended, including Dead City (with Maggie and Negan) and Daryl Dixon.
A new series to satisfy comic book fans?
The successful adaptation of Invincible (among the top-rated superhero series on AlloCiné) has already proven to us that Robert Kirkman’s work adapts perfectly to the animation format. And there’s no doubt that many fans disappointed by the previous series will be ready to welcome a more faithful adaptation of The Walking Dead with open arms!
The idea of animated production was voiced several times by Robert Kirkman. But you’ll have to wait until you can hope for an animated remake of the Walking Dead to be officially ordered by American channel AMC, which owns the rights to adapt the franchise.
Published from 2003 to 2019, the comic follows the adventures of a group of survivors led by ex-sheriff Rick Grimes in a world populated by the undead. In this post-apocalyptic world, the most dangerous creatures are not zombies, but people who survived the epidemic!
Eleven seasons of The Walking Dead can be watched in their entirety on Netflix.
