A phenomenon in the United States, the independent sci-fi action “Everything, Everywhere at the Same Time” is the main highlight of this Thursday (23/6) in theaters.
The film has been in a paid preview since last week, but its official release will arrive in just over 100 theaters. It’s a fairly limited range, reflecting the current dominance of the circuit by the blockbusters “Lightyear”, “Jurassic World: Dominion” and “Top Gun: Maverick”.
The lack of space even limits the distribution of the Brazilian musical comedy “Dissonantes”, which in other times would have gained more attention when it was released. Check out all the titles, trailers, and information on each of the week’s seven releases below.
| EVERYWHERE EVERYWHERE AT THE SAME TIME |
The biggest hit in the history of indie studio A24 (from films like “Midsommar” and “Ex Machina”), the sci-fi with 95% approval by American critics on Rotten Tomatoes tells the story of a mother exhausted by difficulty paying taxes, when she discovers the existence of the multiverse and many versions of herself in different realities.
Not only that: one of her otherworldly husbands reveals to her that the fate of the multiverse is in her hands. And to prevent the end of all worlds, the character played by Michelle Yeoh (“Star Trek: Discovery”) will have to embody the abilities of all her versions to face Jamie Lee Curtis (“Halloween”) and other dangerous threats that await her in the your mission.
The cast also features Ke Huy Quan (who was the Short Round boy from “Indiana at the Temple of Doom”) as Yeoh’s husband, Stephanie Hsu (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) as his daughter and veteran James Hong (“Adventurers from the Forbidden Neighborhood”), among others. Written and directed by Daniels, pseudonym of duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (both of “A Corpse to Survive”).

The Brazilian comedy features Marcelo Serrado (“Crô em Família”) as a frustrated former grunge rocker who sees his former 90s colleagues take other paths as he sinks into debt so as not to compromise his integrity. The opportunity for a breakthrough comes against him, when a freshman from the television judge, a former musician from his old band, proposes to rent his studio to record an artist in the musical show.
Thati Lopes (“Diários de Intercâmbio”) lives the singer early in her career, convincing retired grunge to put the guitar in her pop. Also, she wants him to perform with her in the contest for the television award, which can get their careers restarted.
“Dissonantes” is written by Mariana Trench Bascos (creator of “Pico da Neblina”) and Pedro Riera (“Clube da Anittinha”), directed by Pedro Amorim (“Divorcio”) and produced by Querosene Filmes.
