Double Trap on Netflix: This Hobbit Actor Starring in Harlan Coben’s Series… Did You Know Him?

From the heir to a mountain kingdom in The Hobbit to the heir to a pharmaceutical company in Double Trap, it’s only one step for Richard Armitage. The British actor currently stars in the hit Netflix series – adapted from Harlan Coben’s novel – where he plays Joe, the protagonist’s missing husband. The latter leads an investigation to find out if he is alive…

But before appearing in Double Trap, Richard Armitage had a long career. He is particularly known for donning the Thorin Oak Shield costume in The Hobbit (a Lord of the Rings spin-off) fantasy trilogy from 2012 to 2014. TMC also aired the third installment last night, The Battle of the 5. Armies.

His character is the leader of the dwarves and heir to their kingdom. He decides to lead an expedition – accompanied by Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) – to reclaim his territory and its treasure, which is guarded by the fearsome dragon Smaug. In this case, the actor wears long hair, a beard and prosthetics, as well as heavy armor and fur, to best match the character imagined by JRR Tolkien. In short, we are far from his appearance in his current series.

Harlan Coben and Richard Armitage, a story that continues

The Hobbit trilogy appears to be the last major work to star Richard Armitage. The 52-year-old actor has been doing films and platform series in recent years. He also seems to have found his new golden goose with Netflix and Harlan Coben. Because before taking a more limited role in Double Trap (since her character is supposed to be dead), she appeared in two other adaptations of the American author’s novels: Intimidate and Don’t Go.

Armitage also collaborated with Netflix last year on the intense series Obsession, which was a huge hit in France. If all these examples are mini-series, which therefore does not count for a second season, it is a safe bet that the British actor and the platform will work together again in the future.
