Cloverfield: You’re in for a big surprise if you watch these two movies at the same time

Initiated in 2008 by JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves, the sci-fi saga Cloverfield is not a franchise like any other. Originally conceived as a transmedia project, it currently consists of three different feature films, which a priori have nothing in common, but actually have many points in common.

  • The Cloverfield Paradox: What are the connections to the other two films?

Often on the Internet and in forums – where fan theories are woven over time – the bridges connecting the three opus of the saga are revealed. Thus, in 2018, the user Reddit pointed out the most disturbing detail that will once and for all link the Cloverfield name and The Cloverfield Paradox.

Indeed, in the latter, at precisely 18 minutes and 20 seconds, the space station crew accidentally detonates a particle accelerator, creating a temporal rift that can affect the past and future, especially the arrival of monsters or sea creatures.

However, in the first Cloverfield, where the giant creature attacks New York, exactly 18 minutes and 20 seconds in, the main character hears the first explosion while he is still on his Manhattan balcony.

It’s hard to imagine this being a mere coincidence, especially when you know JJ Abrams’ attention to detail. So, can we take this unusual Easter egg for what it really is? A stretch connecting the time codes of two different feature films, or in other words, a temporal bridge between two different realities?

What do you think about this hidden detail like no other?
