A break of a few months? 5 things to remember from Merci Internet, the Squeezie documentary

“I’m the most average guy in the world!”

Available exclusively on Prime Video from January 19th, the 5 episodes of the documentary series Merci Internet look back on the career of France’s most famous videographer: Squeezie. And as you’d expect, his 18 million YouTube subscribers didn’t appear overnight.

Because before Scuzzi there was a young Lucas Hochard, who he has become today, he does not hesitate to define as “The most average guy in the world” with fun. Like all teenagers, his life was characterized by school, leisure activities and a few relatively ordinary events that neither speaker tries to dramatize: his parents’ divorce, various ICT and minor disciplinary problems, among others.

Moreover, the latter was primarily due to his immense love for video games, which was instilled by his father and brother. “He was unstoppable!“- exclaims the patriarch of the Hashardi family, recalling his son’s comprehensive passion for digital technologies.

A passion that drives him to try out the YouTube experience for the first time as a complete self-taught with limited means.

An ordinary kid who never intended to become so famous, Lucas Hashard’s journey was like that of Nato or Mr. V, for example, the journey of Merci Internet authors, videographers: the journey of enthusiasts who were ready to share everything with their enthusiasm.

A nickname that breathes the 2010s

Like most of you, you probably forgot about the existence of Dutch DJ Tiesto, whose sound defined the best parties of the 2010s. Well, Squeezie will never forget it!

Indeed, his legendary moniker is no less than a contraction of Tiësto’s breakthrough title, Squeeze It (2012).

Squeezie was told by others

Squeezie’s biggest fans may be familiar with his life through social media content or FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) posted on his YouTube channel, but no one talks about it better than those close to him. Friends, family, or just co-workers follow each other in front of the camera to confide and talk about this phenomenon, from Lena situations to Orelsan… via Kyprien, despite the dead end of their relationship.

But the real discovery of the Merci Internet is Theodore Bone, his friend and regular director for more than 10 years. Also the director of this documentary, his experiences and anecdotes are most fascinating.

An icon of the digital generation

If Lucas Hausshard is at the heart of this documentary, it’s more about the era Merci Internet celebrates. Since the emergence of the Squeezie phenomenon, and even more so since its great success and proliferation of audience recordings, many videographers have excelled.

Léna Situations and Hugo Décrypte, to name just a few, consider Squeezie to be an icon of a generation obsessed with digital technology, allowing young creators to establish legitimacy. For Hugo Travers, aka “Hugo Décrypte”, who moved from his room to the set of L’Emission politique with journalist Léa Salame, mentalities have changed and new ways of understanding information are opening thanks to talents like Squeezie.

The inevitable break?

Nevertheless, the documentary series Merci Internet highlights the psychological and physical pressures placed on the videographer, but also on his teams: fatigue, the fear of losing everything, the desire to always outdo yourself, even if it is. Meant to attempt the ‘impossible’… Squeezie is today paying a heavy price for his fame, despite his overwhelming gratitude to his community.

However, contrary to what Agence France Presse (AFP) initially revealed in a now-deleted post, the YouTuber is not going to take a “month-long hiatus” just to slow down to maintain constant quality. Updates the course of personal life.

All five episodes of Merci Internet are now available exclusively on Prime Video.
