Fluminense announced, this Saturday (20th), the signing of midfielder Gabriel Pires. The 30-year-old player was already at coach Carlos Castilho to sign permanently with the Tricolor until the end of 2025. Last season, the Portuguese athlete from Benfica played on loan at Botafogo. The Rio club has announced that he will wear the number 22 shirt.
“I was very happy when I heard about the interest and when I arrived here at CT, where I was welcomed very well by everyone and I could see the structure. Very happy to arrive in such a big club with so many titles, including the recent champion of America. So I was happy with this opportunity to be in a title-winning environment. I came to help and, God willing, achieve even more,” the midfielder told the Rio club’s official website .
The player arrived in European football at a young age when he was signed by Juventus, Italy. Furthermore, he played for Pro Vercelli-ITA, Spezia-ITA, Livorno-ITA, Leganés-ESP and, finally, Benfica. Still outside Brazil, the midfielder also played for Al-Gharafa, in Qatar.
“The expectation is the best possible, the most positive. Before starting I always think of the highest possible things, I come to give my best. I am happy to be able to return to work in Brazil, I have been alone. I have been here for a short time and a few people know me. So I’m here to do my best,” he added.
He knows Rio football well
Last season, Gabriel Pires defended the colors of Botafogo. In this sense he made 34 appearances, thirteen of which as a starter and scored two goals. After recovering from a calf injury, he became a starter in the final part of the Brazilian championship.
In addition to Gabriel Pires, Fluminense has also officially signed defender Antônio Carlos, already making his debut, goalkeeper Felipe Alves and midfielder Renato Augusto. Finally, negotiations have advanced with the Mexican Pachuca, for the Uruguayan attacking midfielder David Terans.
