Coach Abel Ferreira admitted in the press conference, after the match against Novorizontino, this Sunday (21/1), that Palmeiras did not play a good match. Therefore, he mentioned fatigue and short preparation time as factors that influenced the result. Verdão’s first round in the Campeonato Paulista 2024 was a 1-1 draw, and the goal of the Novo Horizonte team, which played at home – at the Jorjão stadium – came only in the last minute of injury time, preventing the victory of Palmeiras, which seemed right.
“Our opponent deserved the draw,” acknowledged Abel, underlining that by conceding late in the match, Palmeiras had learned a lesson.
“It serves as a learning experience. I thought the best solution was to look for the second goal. We had two or three chances to put the ball in the box. But the lesson remains,” he said.
Abel highlighted that Novorizontino has quality and has also had a longer training period.
“It is a very well organized team, with two weeks of extra work,” he underlined.
Abel will evaluate the base players
The coach also spoke about the structure of the team. After all, the debut featured three reinforcements: Caio Paulista, Bruno Rodrigues and Aníbal Moreno. Palmeiras is therefore still looking for a replacement for striker Artur. Moreover, the Ceará player was sold to Russian Zenit.
“The price of winning titles is that they want to look for our players,” he said, adding that negotiations for Verdão’s athletes have already ended.
“We have already sold the players necessary for the financial balance of the club. Now we will continue with Paulistão and make adjustments. Let’s see who comes from the base,” he declared, mentioning the names of Luis and Estêvão as youngsters who will be evaluated.
“We will see what response they give and we will make the adjustments we need to make,” he concluded.
Palmeiras’ next match at Paulista is Wednesday (24/1), at 9.35pm (Brasilia time), against Inter de Limeira, at Allianz Parque.
