The modality is also known as “pleasure exercise”
Many people are betting on the race to abandon a sedentary lifestyle in the long term. And when followed to the letter, the activity can bring numerous benefits to those who want to maintain an active physical life. But did you know that running protects your heart? This is what is underlined by the Chinese physical education professional Chen Tao, who in his research for the School of Physical Education of Lingnan Normal University, in China, defined running as a cardiac protector.
Does running protect the heart? Understand
The method of this experiment consisted of a group of ten healthy volunteers. Engaged in a 45-minute running circuit, done four times a week for three weeks.
Spirometry and cardiac monitoring data were collected, compared and discussed. The article then mentioned the concept of subjective exercise intensity to detect the best analysis and judgment of cardiac function.
A quantitative survey was also carried out, through the analysis of 315 questionnaires, which verified the current state of awareness on sports health among track enthusiasts.
Subsequently, Chen found that the heart rate amplitude during the race remained in the 120-160 range, a common index for the public surveyed, but admitted that generally women’s heart rates were higher than men’s.
Another point listed by Tao is that the intensity of the exercise has maintained a frequency below the value of 16. A phase considered slightly strenuous, and that the relative intensity of the exercise appears between 50% and 71.5% .
In light of these analyses, this professional concluded that running has a good cardiac protective effect, which makes its practitioners very attentive to sports health, and the indication of this sport to promote physical and social therapeutic activity.
The expert’s point of view
“The running studied in this research is of moderate intensity. In other words, it is practically an aerobic exercise with little anaerobic participation. And this allows these people to maintain themselves in what is called steady state. Therefore, the maintenance of this stability for a prolonged period of time causes our entire organism to adapt to this new situation”, commented Dr. Paulo Zogaib, doctor of the Exercise and Sports Medicine Center of SĂrio-LibanĂȘs, in an exclusive interview with Sports Life.
