Sci-fi fans should be given a new series to call their own. According to the Collider website, negotiations are underway for a prelude to the film “The Book of Eli” (2010).
The original stars Denzel Washington as the protagonist. The series is set 30 years earlier with star John Boyega, the Finn from the most recent Star Wars trilogy, playing a younger version of the post-apocalyptic hero.
Boyega will also executive produce the new series, alongside brothers Albert and Allen Hughes, directors of the 2010 film. The screenwriter of the original, Gary Whitta, now returns as creator, writer (again) and executive producer of the series.
The “Book of Eli” series is still in the early stages of development and has no set release date.
What was the story?
Ok, I admit that I didn’t remember the plot well either. Mainly because, in 2010, I was really worried about the release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1”.
The year also had the great “Inception,” by Christopher Nolan, and the first “How to Train Your Dragon.” It was the debut of “The Expendables” which brought together all the big names of action cinema… however it is right not to remember “The Book of Eli”.
The film, however, performed well at the box office. The budget was $80 million, of which Sony grossed $157 million worldwide, almost double.
On the Rotten Tomatoes platform, the film scored 47%, with a mix of positive and negative reviews, some very cruel.
“The Book of Eli” presents the story of a wanderer living on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Your goal is to bring a mysterious book to a secret hideout on Alcatraz Island. The film has several action scenes and a strong theme related to faith.
In addition to Denzel, the cast also included Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Beals, Ray Stevenson and Michael Gambon.
The production is available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+.
