The Big Lebowski: The Sequel is also a remake of a very famous French film!

It’s one of the Coen brothers’ most iconic films, which is saying something considering their filmography. But The Big Lebowski is still one of their top-rated movies by Internet users on AlloCiné, with an audience rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars (only Fargo and No Country for Old Men are better).

This film tells the incredible story of a hippie dude (Jeff Bridges) who is mistaken by debt collectors for his name as Jeffrey Lebowski, a billionaire extortion victim.

Despite himself being immersed in the heart of an incredible investigation, the latter does not forget about the bowling team, which consisted of the sanguine Walter (John Goodman) and the simple-minded Don (Steve Buscemi).

“No one argues with Jesus”

A series of absurd and improbable twists, The Big Lebowski is a comedy that pokes fun at American film noir. The film features a gallery of characters, each one funnier than the last, starting with its main character The Dude (translated as “Duke” in French).

As funny as it is rib-cracking, The Big Lebowski is especially remembered for its large number of lines and scenes that are now considered downright iconic.

A true alien, this film is a must-see for anyone who wants to build a cinematic culture. But what many people don’t know is that The Big Lebowski was a sequel, or rather a spin-off, entirely devoted to the character of Jesus Quintana (played by John Turturro).

The American actor himself directed this feature film called The Jesus Rolls. Produced without (but with the agreement of) the Coen brothers, this film is a special project because it was also conceived by its actor/director as a remake of the famous Bertrand Blier film, Les Valseuses.

“It’s like… your opinion, man”: The scene that made Jesus an iconic character!

A new sequel in France

Like the 1974 version, The Jesus Rolls follows the adventures of two crooks and their odyssey – a particularly sexual one. This remake stars John Turturro himself, accompanied by Bobby Cannavale. The cast also includes Christopher Walken and Jon Hamm, as well as French actress Audrey Tautou.

“This is a transgressive film that shows how stupid men are. Men who try, fail, and still try to understand and recognize the mystery of women.”John Turturro confided to our colleagues independent. The film has a bit of a “women are the strongest” theme.

The 2016 film was released in the United States only four years later. Out of theaters in France, The Jesus Rolls is still completely unavailable here. Which explains the low profile of this sequel among many fans of The Big Lebowski.

Joel and Ethan Coen’s comedy The Big Lebowski will no longer be available on Prime Video starting January 31.
