On Yellowstone TMC: Was Kevin Costner’s series really filmed in Montana?

The Yellowstone Phenomenon series arrives this Thursday evening at TMC. Filmed by Kevin Costner, this modern western follows the Montana family, which owns the largest ranch in the United States as they fight to defend their lands.

If Yellowstone is based on multiple conflicts, seniors and low shots, as well as the undoubted talent of different actors, the series also occupies an important place in the story. The special environment of the Dutton family ranch is the perfect backdrop for this intense western series, with its meadows as far as the eye can see, its majestic mountains and the typical chalet of the region.

Because of the broadcast of the first episode, discover everything you need to know about the Yellowstone set.

If you were planning to move to Montana after watching the first episodes of Yellowstone, you may be very disappointed. Indeed, if the existing grand landscapes are 100% authentic, they were shot in Utah. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, about 75% of the first three seasons were filmed in more than 20 different locations in this western U.S. state.

However, the situation changed during the filming of the 4th season, after it was filmed almost exclusively in Montana. The decision is essentially financial in nature, the tax incentive program (which offered tax benefits to the products) was no longer as attractive as before. However, this change of scenery allows the series to gain authenticity.

If for Montana landscapes, the production has cheated a bit, the Dutton Clan Ranch really exists. The family’s stunning wooden cabinet is actually a palace run by Chief Joseph Ranch, near Montana. And as in television, it is a real breeding ground and habitat.

We get to shoot at the ranch where everything happens. It can almost be said that the house is one of the central characters of the story“, – explained Kevin Costner in an interview with Vanity Fair. You go outside and see that the horses are running and the men are working“.

And when Yellowstone is not filmed, the site owners rent out some of the property’s booths to guests. Visitors can also go fishing, horseback riding and hiking in the heart of the region’s mountains.

Find new episodes of Yellowstone every Thursday at 9:15 pm on TMC. The first three seasons are now available on Salto.
