Vasco agrees to sign midfielder Sforza, from Newell’s Old Boys

The player will cost Vasco’s coffers 5 million dollars. Negotiations with the Argentine club accelerated following the departure of Marlon Gomes

After negotiating Marlon Gomes with Shakhtar Donetsk, from Ukraine, last week, Vasco agreed to sign Juan Sforza, who was at Newell’s Old Boys, from Argentina. The midfielder had been in Cruz-Maltino’s sights for some time, but the SAF accepted some requests from the Argentines after the negotiations stalled.

Negotiations were accelerated after the departure of Marlon Gomes. Gigante da Colina will pay 5 million dollars, a figure that could increase by 1 million dollars if the player reaches some objectives set out in the contract. However, Newell’s will still retain 20% of the rights to the wheel in the event of a future sale.

Sforza will arrive at Vasco after Argentina’s participation in the pre-Olympic tournament, which is played in Venezuela. The brothers are second in Group B, with four points from two games, behind only Paraguay, who have seven. The top two in each group advance to the final quadrangular. The two best will go to Paris in search of the gold medal.

Vasco interrupted negotiations for Sforza and gave priority to Cuéllar

In the first attempt, the negotiations were so successful that the team’s coach, Mauricio Larriera, declared that he no longer counted on Sforza. As did president Ignacio Astore, who spoke about the steering wheel in a farewell tone after accepting the offer. However, Vasco shifted his attention to Gustavo Cuéllar. After all, the Colombian midfielder, who currently plays for Al Shabab, hailing from Saudi Arabia, was the board’s priority.

Ramón and Emiliano Díaz understood that they needed a more experienced and ready midfielder. Furthermore, the coach and his son had Cuéllar as a trusted player, as they worked together at Al-Hilal between 2021 and 2022. The coaching staff spoke with the Colombian midfielder who showed interest in returning to football Brazilian. To do so he also agreed to reduce his salary. However, Al-Shabab, the club where he plays, did not agree to exchange the athlete.

With this, Juan Sforza once again became one of the Hill Giant’s prime targets. He was never discarded by Ramón and Emiliano Díaz. He was simply seen as a promising player who needed to be perfected and the coach believes that he and his team are capable of delivering this.
