From a partnership between MUBI and O2 Play, ‘Perfect Days’ arrived in cinemas in Brazil this Monday, 29
Nominated for the Best International Film award at the 96th edition of Oscar under the inscription of Japan, Perfect Days was released in Brazilian cinemas this Monday, 29th. With a breathtaking performance, Koji Yakusho won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Festival 2023. The film is a moving and tender character study of Wim Wenders and arrived in the country through a partnership between MUBI and the O2 Play.
A long-awaited return to fiction cinema Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire), Perfect Days takes the writer and director to Tokyo to tell a story that celebrates the hidden joys and minutiae of Japanese culture. Koji Yakusho (13 Assassins) stars as Hirayama, a contemplative middle-aged man who lives a modest and serene life, spending his days balancing his job as the dutiful caretaker of Tokyo’s numerous public restrooms with his passion for music, literature, and photography. As we join him in his methodical daily routine, a series of unexpected encounters gradually begin to reveal a hidden past in his happy and harmonious life.
Combining a refreshing, non-stereotypical depiction of the Japanese capital with a soundtrack of iconic hits from the 60s and 80s, this is a subtle, brilliant and ultimately life-affirming reflection on finding beauty in the everyday world around us.
