Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer joins the Hunger Games prequel

As pre-production work progresses on the hunger games prequel The ballad of songbirds and snakes, more casting happens naturally. The latest addition is Euphoriaby Hunter Shafer.

With the mainstay of the Francis Lawrence franchise redirected from a screenplay by Michael Lesslie, the film is set years before the Games film, and in part it focuses on a young Coriolanus Snow, who will later be the tyrannical president of Panem. Here, 18-year-old Snow (Tom Blyth) is the last hope of his declining bloodline, a once proud family that fell from grace on a post-war Capitol.

As the 10th edition of The Hunger Games approaches, Snow is alarmed when he is assigned mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), the tribute girl from the poor District 12. But after Lucy Gray gets Panem’s full attention by defiantly singing at the harvest ceremony, Snow thinks he can tip the odds in her favor. Combining their instincts for showbiz and their newfound political proficiency, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake …

Schafer is on board to play Tigris Snow, Coriolanus’ cousin and confidant, who advises him on everything from his mentor to the heart of his moral compass.

His pick follows the latest group of rookies, which included Nick Benson, Laurel Marsden, Lilly Cooper, Luna Steeples and Hiroki Berrecloth. Benson will play Jessup, the District 12 Tribute opposite Zegler’s Baird; Marsden will play Mayfair Lipp, who puts Baird’s name in the running for the 10th Hunger Games; Cooper will play Arachne Crane, mentor in a District 10 tribute; Steeples will play Dill, a tribute to District 11, and Berrecloth will play Treech, a tribute to District 7.

The film is aiming for a November 17, 2023 release date.
