The trailer marks the return to the cinema of the creator of “Girls”.

Independent studio Utopia has released the poster and trailer for the comedy “Sharp Stick”, which marks Lena Dunham’s return to film, 12 years after attracting attention with the comedy “Minimum Furniture”.

Since then, she has exploded with “Girls” and devoted herself to producing new series. Therefore, her cinematic return was influenced by excessive expectations.

The trailer tries to convey the impression that the reception was positive, highlighting the laudatory phrases of the press. But the truth is, its screening at the Sundance Film Festival last January split critics, reaching just 47% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.

The production bears the stamp of controversy that became Dunham’s calling card, thanks to an overtly sexual theme. The plot follows a naive young woman who begins to have an affair with her married boss, with whom she learns more about sex, but also about the meaning of power relationships.

The cast is led by Kristine Froseth (“Who Are You, Alaska?”), Jon Bernthal (“The Punisher”), Jennifer Jason Leigh (“The Hateful Eight”) and Taylour Paige (“Zola”).

Still without a preview date in Brazil, “Sharp Stick” will be released in the US limited circuit on July 29 and digitally on August 16.
