Julia Wandelt, 22, also took a DNA test to find out if she was the English woman missing since 2007
The young Polense Giulia Wandelt (also identified by surnames Wendell AND Faustina), 22, revealed that he regrets announcing that he would be Madeleine McCannan English woman who disappeared at the age of 3, in 2007, in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
“I never meant to hurt anyone, either [os] McCann. I really wanted to know who I am,” Julia said in an interview with BBC. If she could go back in time, she says she would never have done a profile Madeleine McCann, “I would never go on social media. It can destroy you,” she explained.
The Polish woman gained notoriety in February 2023 when her Instagram profile called ‘@iammadeleinemccan’ (“I am Madeleine McCann” in loose translation) went viral. She also posted a video asking for help taking a DNA test. OR an examination was carried out which proved that Julia was not Madeleine McCann.
But what drove the young Polish girl to say she was Madeleine?
According to the interview, Giulia She was sexually abused as a child and has always dealt with mental health issues. At the age of 20, already in therapy, she realized that she did not remember many periods of her childhood and she began to question her origins. Her family, however, did not respond to her questions about a possible adoption, which served to fuel her suspicion that she would be “adopted or kidnapped.”
So, Julia started searching missing persons websites until she found Madeleine’s case and discovered similarities with the missing girl. Both Julia and Madeleine have colobomas on their iris – a rare eye anomaly that can make the pupil look like a keyhole. The Polish woman also claims that she called the British police, but “no one treated me seriously”, and that she ended up using social media.
