Directed by Christophe Ditouron, Les Vieux fourneaux is adapted from the comic book of the same name by Wilfried Lupano and Paul Caue. A huge success when it was released in 2018 (939,040 admissions), this year it found a second life on Netflix. With an average rating of 3.1 out of 5 on AlloCiné, the film still has its defenders and detractors:

“Just a great movie moment” writes Julien F. “Christophe Ditouron knew how to perfectly respect and adapt to the comic, adding a sensitivity that moves us from laughter to tears. Sometimes we come across “Audiar” style dialogues that add to the fun. A very good French film. Cinema.”

Alice Paul

should i see him find him “The rhythm is quite balanced (…). Some passages, such as the flashbacks, are a little more elaborate and look quite good, helping to release the emotions. Because yes, apart from being funny, this film turned out to be quite disturbing: we liked these three little The old man and their story, which turns out to be exciting.”

Obviously, other opinions are more mixed, such as Greg.38, which suggests this “It’s an entertaining film with a few grains of craziness that’s enjoyable to watch, but doesn’t make it a great film” Where the frame is stricter and judges it “It’s never funny, the clichés are numerous, the dialogue rings false and the pacing is inconsistent.”

Eddie Mitchell

Make up your mind, and if you love the movie as much as Netflix subscribers, know that there’s a sequel, Old Stoves: Good for Shelter, available on VOD.
