Disintegrated and disinterested, Brazil puts in a terrible performance, is easy prey and escapes a historic defeat this Thursday (1)
The Brazilian team’s reserves took to the field without having to do anything to secure first place in group A of the Pre-Olympic. But they decided to embarrass themselves. Inertly, Brazil was easily beaten 3-1 by Venezuela, who needed to win to qualify and didn’t even have to try too hard to do so. Segovia, twice, and Rikelme, scored the Venezuelan goals. Aleksander, as the lights went out, scored for the Brazilians.
The Brazilian team’s next match already has a confirmed date, but not their opponent. Brazil debuts in the quadrangular final next Monday. However, since there is still no definition for first place in Group B, it is not yet known whether against Argentina or Paraguay.
First time
Two nil wasn’t enough. Disjointed and disinterested, the Seleção produced nothing noteworthy in the first 45 minutes. Therefore, Venezuela took advantage of Brazilian inertia. In the 10th minute he already deserved to open the scoring when Segovia scored through Martinez, received a perfect pass and made it 1-0.
Not even the disadvantage, however, woke Brazil up. On the contrary, it was Venezuela that increased its dominance and, of course, achieved the second goal. In the 30th minute Rivas launches a long ball, Lucas Fasson doesn’t cut it and Segovia doubles Viñotinto. In short, after conceding the second, on at least three occasions Brazil flirted with an even greater disadvantage. In the most obvious case, the goalkeeper was already beaten when Martinez rolled towards goal and Lucas Fasson saved.
Second time
The Seleção returned with Endrick and Marlon Gomes replacing Maurício and Marquinhos respectively, and thus started the second phase better. Although he didn’t shine, he attempted some reaction. Venezuela’s response, however, was a rain of frozen water: in the 9th minute Lacava crossed from the left and the Brazilian Rikelme, attempting to cut in with a pass, slipped into his own net.
The goal, as expected, chilled any semblance of Brazilian spirit. As in the first half he had more of the ball at his feet, but he created the same thing: almost nothing. In the 31st minute, however, a flash from Gabriel Pec, who finishes the ball, almost turns into a goal.
With the score consolidated, the Venezuelans slowed down and waited for the final whistle. Finally, Brazil showed grace with a great goal: Aleksander freed two markers with a beautiful rotation and scored the Brazilian goal of honour, in the 44th minute. Nothing, however, that could diminish the shameful performance.
