The most popular destinations for travelers are the seaside, mountain, inland and Costa Verde cities of the State of Rio, as well as MG, SP and ES. The latter regions are also responsible for the greater number of arrivals of tourists who will spend the Carnival holidays in Rio: in these sectors, according to the concessionaire, there has been an increase in demand for tickets of 20%, directly linked to the maximum number of tickets planes. Demand for tickets at Rio’s bus station is 10% higher than the previous year and the terminal is already operating with almost 100% of pre-pandemic movement.

Carnival event

To welcome tourists arriving in Rio during this period and entertain passengers waiting to board, the Rio Bus Station will carry out various cultural and public utility activities during the days of greatest influx of people in the terminal. In collaboration with the NGO Mangueira do Ajante and the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Brazil (Amebras), the concessionaire will host an exhibition in the high school sector, near the Caixa Econômica branch, from 6 to 16 February. The exhibition consists of 10 mannequins decorated with costumes from past Rio Carnival parades. The Rio Carnival Court (King Momo and the Queens) must also be present on this occasion. On 02/06 (from 9:00 to 11:00) and 02/09 (from 12:00 to 14:00), anyone passing through the terminal will also be able to attend samba and pagoda shows by a group of percussionists and dancers .

Clarification activities for the population

– From 8 to 9 February (from 8:00 to 12:00) the “Empoderadas” project takes place in the lower arrivals sector. The Secretariat of State for Human Rights (RJ) will carry out a campaign by distributing flyers and stickers to tourists arriving in Rio with the aim of preventing risk situations experienced by women during parties, blocks and carnival events in the city of Rio de Janeiro;

– From 9 to 13/02 (from 9.30 to 17.30), the AA (Alcoholics Anonymous Office of Rio de Janeiro) will serve in the events sector (superannuation), distributing leaflets on the damage of alcohol abuse;

– On 02/08 (from 9:00 to 16:00), the Foundation for Children and Adolescents (SOS Missing Children Programme/State Government) also planned the distribution of identification bracelets to inform the parents of the children disappeared. The teams will also be present in the events sector, in the upper boarding area for the service.

Guidelines for passengers

The concessionaire that manages the Rio bus station advises passengers to leave home at least 1 hour before boarding time. The City of Rio has made road changes in the accesses to the bus terminal, such as blocking city buses traveling on Av. Francisco Bicalho and Av. Rodrigues Alves and reversing lanes for other vehicles.
