This Friday, June 24, Prime Video invites us to discover Chloe, a new 6-episode TV series that fascinated the British during its broadcast on the BBC in early 2022. We meet Becky, a wise and modest young woman caring for her ailing mother.

Her favorite pastime, which has become addictive, is to scrutinize Instagram and, in particular, hack into the account of a lost childhood friend, Chloe. But if the latter seems to lead a perfect life, he still kills himself brutally. The most annoying? Before he died, he tried to call Beck.

In shock, he creates a new identity and intervenes in a luxurious environment that is far from his … which reminds us of certain episodes of another British detective series: Sherlock. Like a famous detective, he tries to solve a seemingly unsolved mystery, which will eventually lead him to confront his own demons …

In Chloe, social media and Beck’s attitude are key points. Like Mr. Robot, the protagonist is tormented by the screen, and the series questions our relationship between reality and the virtual.

Chloe is a perfectly recorded series in our time, a virtual double that sometimes expresses toxic superficiality. Its creator, Ali Sibrit, has already written and signed some episodes of sex education that also dealt with contemporary issues. Its production here is darker and deeper, there is an atmosphere between the thriller and the psychological thriller.

Remarkable actor

Erin Dohert shines on the screen as Beck, whose interpretation of Princess Anna was particularly noticeable in The Crown in Seasons 3 and 4. Around him Pippa Bennett-Warner (Sick Note) is Livia, the deceased’s best friend, while Billy Howell (the snake) is Elliot Fairborn, the mysterious widow. Finally, it’s Poppy Gilbert (Don’t Wander) who we meet in Chloe’s mask, cautious on screen but ubiquitous in the story.
