In late 1700s Cornwall, England, Ross Poldark, who was dead, returns after fighting in the American Revolutionary War. He then thinks to find his beloved and his little unchanged world, but after three years of absence, it is a world of ruins that awaits him. His father has died, the family mine has gone bankrupt, and his fiancée, Elizabeth, is now engaged to her cousin.

After that, Ross has no choice but to rebuild his personal and professional life. On the agenda: a new business venture, new enemies and new love where he least expected it…

Written for the BBC by Debbie Horsfield, Poldark (2015-2019) is the second adaptation of Winston Graham’s novels of the same name, published between 1945-1953 and again between 1973-2002. Little known, the series – rated 4. out of 5 by AlloCiné viewers – is nonetheless a little British historical nugget that’s absolutely worth a detour. Interesting from its first episode, Poldark There’s a clever mix of drama, epic romance and stories (small and capital ‘H’) that won’t let you go until its last episode. Really, everything is here: adventure, emotion, love, family, class struggle, all kinds of adventure and tragedy.

Add to this attractive characters played by brilliant actors, excellent costumes, grandiose scenes, magnificent scenery, breathtaking photography, brutal pacing: we will not get bored for a single second of this clearly addictive series that will completely tear us away and watch it like never before.

In the middle of the epic shine some heroes with perfect alchemy, who never fail to charm us: the charismatic Aidan Turner (The Hobbit) and the dazzling Eleanor Tomlinson (The Nevers).

During its 5 seasons – which adapts the first 7 books of a series of 12 novels – the show has deservedly received rave reviews and won the audience award at the 2016 BAFTA TV Awards – in addition to being nominated numerous times, just like its lead. Actor during various ceremonies and festivals.
