ESPN: The main streaming channel will launch in 2025

In a conference call on quarterly results, Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, announced on Wednesday (7) that ESPN’s main streaming service finally has a launch date: between September and November 2025. The arrival of the new platform had already been announced in May last year and comes to offer “the complete set” from ESPN networks.

It’s worth mentioning that Disney already offers ESPN+ as an alternative to cable TV, but with some limitations, serving only as a complement to the network’s channels.

Just as the studio integrated Hulu into Disney+, the plan is for ESPN+ to also be part of the package in the future.

The announcement comes shortly after Disney also announced a landmark deal with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery. The companies will join together in a joint venture that will combine sports broadcast rights in the United States.

The new platform, also untitled, will offer live linear channels such as ABC, Fox, TNT, TBS and, of course, ESPN, as well as gaming and other sports rights from the three media giants on a non-exclusive basis.

In the case of this service, it will be available later this year for more than $40 a month. Subscribers will also be able to bundle existing subscriptions to Disney+, Hulu, and Max (HBO Max).

To THR, a source close to the project said the new venture is not expected to have any impact on ESPN’s plans to offer a “mainstream” direct-to-consumer streaming service, with the initiative being another way to integrate and expand content.
