Dive into The Kingdom of Abysses in theaters next February 21st for an underwater adventure that will blow your mind. After Monkey King: Hero is Back, Chinese director Tian Xiaopeng’s new film is already shaping up to be a real hit thanks to its sublime animation.
Presented at the 2023 Annecy Festival, this feature film takes viewers on a spectacular odyssey into a lush and magical world, as the trailer reveals. A major project that took more than seven years of work to see the light of day!
The Kingdom of Abyss tells the story of Shenxiu, a 10-year-old girl who drowned in the depths of the sea during a family cruise. He discovers the fantastic world of the Abyss, an unknown world inhabited by incredible creatures. In this mysterious place, the Abyss Restaurant appears, run by the iconic Captain Nane. Chased by the Red Ghost, their path will be strewn with trials and many mysteries…
In order to offer the audience an extraordinary experience, Tian Xiaopeng chose a new animation technique. “ink particle staining” effect “Helps to blend the impressionism of Chinese ink painting with the realism of computer animation, thus preserving the spontaneity and individuality of ink painting while preserving the depth of field of the scene, as well as the variations of shadow and light.” The director explains.

Over the weekend of February 10th and 11th, there will also be multiple screenings in more than 400 cinemas across France. Movie posters and trading cards will be given away to lucky participants.
