Do you know which real life actress inspired the character design of Aladdin’s Jasmine? The animated film is partly based on the appearance of the heroine of Agrabah: Jennifer Connelly!
During the preparation of the film, the actress worked with Disney on the feature film The Adventures of Rocketeer, in which she played the female lead opposite Billie Campbell, Alan Arkin and Timothy Dalton. Unfortunately for him, The Rocketeer would become a resounding failure for Disney, and Connell’s career would suffer for several years.

However, during the production of Aladdin, animator Mark Hahn took inspiration from Connelly, particularly her eyebrows, for Jasmine and added her sister Beth Hahn-Allen’s facial features, while model Robina Ritchie pre-recorded lines to facilitate animation.

It’s actress Linda Larkin (seen only in Married (or Almost)) who provides her final voice in the film, while Lea Salonga provides the singing parts (she’ll do the same on Mulan).

For reference, the Aladdin team originally planned for Jasmine to have a very “spoiled angry” personality who was only interested in the richest prince. He would obviously change after his contact with the beggar of Agrabah. A song was even written for the occasion. call me princessBut it never passed.
