Known for his vocal interpretation of Nick Nolte, the merciless Pat Hibuler in many Disney productions or even the beloved tiger cat in Fievel and the New World, the talented actor Allen Dorval is known for his deep and rocky tone. The legendary Sylvester Stallone died at the age of 77.
In April 2021, we had the privilege of welcoming him to the microphone of our show Voix Ouf, dedicated to the diamonds in the rough of French dubbing. During an interview lasting more than an hour and a half, during which the emotional and exciting Allen Dorval was full of anecdotes about his rich career, the artist especially told us about the meeting with Stallone himself.
“The Rock Was Really Different”
“Besides the many flaws I have, I am completely involved in everything I do”he told us. “(…) But Rocky was really different. I saw it in the projection before the dub, it was amazing in the way it approached things. There is real writing in Stallone. And when I met him, that’s what I wanted to talk to him about. (…) It’s an amazing character and Stallone is someone I think is very amazing.”
The dubbing actor, who expressed his sincere admiration for the American cinematographer, told us more about his face-to-face meeting with the latter:
“we must fight”
“When I met Sylvester Stallone, it was for Rocky Balboa, the sixth movie, and he told me that this movie was just as difficult to put together as the first one because nothing was bought in the United States. He did five more, he could do a sixth. No, not at all, not because you did five, you will do 6. There is always something to prove and something to fight for. (…) He carries it inside himself. I’m not talking about Rocky here, I’m talking about Stallone. And then the cinema has such a love, this… . He likes actors and you can feel it.”
“What interests him deeply is film”
Bringing with great tenderness and emotion the roles entrusted to Burgess Meredith (Mickey) and Burt Young (Paul) by Stallone, Allen Dorval then returned to the self-sacrificing spirit shown by the interpreter of rock, which sometimes marked a certain. Actors he met on stage:
“Stallone, what he cares deeply about is the film. If at any point his character has to degrade or otherwise be of interest to the film, he will never hesitate to do it! I’m sure of that. It’s not ‘me’ putting myself forward to appear.’ There are teenagers who understand that when they have lesser-known actors next to them, if the other actors are good, it benefits the lead first, because the movie will be good or the play will be good.”
“So there are intelligent people and others who are less intelligent. But Stallone, we feel that he loves actors, that he never forces them. Because he was applauded, on the contrary.”
