Disney fans are finding out that a major player in the Jurassic Park/World universe is in one of their favorite movies.
I think we all agree that Disney’s live-action remake of ‘Mulan’ from a couple of years ago doesn’t even match the soles of the original animated film’s shoes from 1998.
The actress Ming-Na Wen gave voice (in its original version) to Mulan, a young Han dynasty woman who pretends to be a man to take her elderly father’s place in the army. A story of overcoming, equality and struggle for rights that had the character of Eddie Murphy, Mushu Dragonas one of its main attractions thanks to its freshness and good sense of humor.
The animated children’s film turns 24 years old, and from the Disney Facebook page they wanted to pay tribute to it by sharing photos of the original cast. And, for many fans of the tape, the surprise has jumped.
Many fans of the mouse company have discovered to their amazement that BD Wong, the actor who plays Doctor Henry Wu in the ‘Jurassic World’ franchise, is the voice of ‘Mulan’ protagonist Li Shang.
Going in chronological order of the ‘Jurassic Park/World’ saga, Wong first appeared in the 1993 film ‘Jurassic Park’ and later became the only original cast member to work on all the films in the new Jurassic World trilogy.
BD Wong was in charge of Shang’s dialogues in ‘Mulan’, while Donny Osmond was chosen to put the voice in the character’s songs. The comments of many of the followers, surprised by the revelation, were immediate:
“Wait a minute… BD WOng was Shang’s voice!?”
“I found out at my 35 years that my favorite corrupt geneticist in Jurassic Park did the voice of Shang in Mulan”
“He was Shan? I always thought that Shang had a super sexy voice and I also thought that Wong was super sexy in ‘Jurassic Park’. I’m super excited that they’re the same person.”
Although, in the meantime, there was still room for those who did not know Wong from ‘Jurassic Park’ but for his recurring role in one of the best trial and lawyer series, ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’.
“Dr. Huang was Shang in Mulan???”
BD Wong continues to work as a voice actor, and will voice one of the new characters in the animated series ‘Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai’.
