Peixe is guaranteed in the knockout phase of the Paulistão
With the victory over São Paulo, Santos secured the knockout stage of the Paulistão and took an important step towards competing in the Copa do Brasil in 2025.
After the redistribution of places carried out by the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) in 2023, only the five best teams in the final Paulistão ranking guarantee participation in the following year’s Copa do Brasil. If there are teams in the top five that qualify via the Libertadores or the Copa do Brasil, the sixth-placed team from the Campeonato Paulista advances to the national tournament and so on.
With three rounds left in the group stage, Peixe is the leader of Paulistão, with 19 points. Novorizontino, ranked sixth, has 12 points in the standings. If Santos wins the knockout match and reaches the semi-finals, they will be guaranteed the next Copa do Brasil.
Relegated to the Série B of the Brasileirão, Alvinegro Praiano did not obtain a place in the current edition of the Copa do Brasil. Andrés Rueda, former president of Santos, believed that the CBF would invite the club to play in the competition. However, the tournament regulations do not provide for invitations to clubs.
In this edition of the national tournament, the champion will accumulate, from the first phase, almost R$ 95 million.
