Race car driver, singer, press boss… Rael’s 1001 life before he became the guru of his fame sect

While the “Messenger” of the “Elohim” and leading one of France’s most important sectarian movements, Rael had several lives. Real name Claude Worlihon, the man—now exiled in Japan—didn’t always set out to be an extraterrestrial representative on Earth. Passionate about cars, Guru’s calling was to become a racing driver.

A new Jacques Brel?

From the age of 20, he participated in competitions such as the Volant Shell Nevers Magni-Cours in 1966. He took third place. While his career struggles to rise, Claude Vorlihon makes a radical change and begins to sing. We are still in the sixties and the next leader has ambitions to become the new Jacques Brel.

He moved to Paris and was spotted by Lucien Maurice, the producer of Dalida and Michel Polnareff. Claude Vorlihon changes his name to Claude Seller. In one year, he recorded seven 45 and similar titles Holy shame or Mrs. Pip build its popularity. But fate interrupts his musical dream. In 1970, his producer committed suicide. Claude Sellers leaves his singing career and becomes Claude Vorlihon again.

Running out of ideas, he returned to his first love of cars and decided to launch a magazine specializing in car racing. Auto pop – driver review. The paper was launched in 1971 and disappeared two years later in 1973 as a result of the oil crisis which banned racing.

In the same year he claimed to have first made contact with the “Elohim” in Auvergne. This encounter of the third kind inspired him to write Testimony, published in 1974, a book that tells the truth – a message from extraterrestrials. It was at the publication of this work that Claude Vorlihon chose the pseudonym Raël, which inspired his future movement.
