Mortal Kombat 2: Scorpion will return in the sequel, actor confirms

Confirmed! The Mortal Kombat sequel will see Hiroyuki Sanada return to the role of Scorpion. The actor confirmed his return during the launch event of the Shogun series, which sees him as the protagonist.

The first Mortal Kombat (2001) was produced by James Wan, who also directed Aquaman and Saw. The sequence has not yet received a release date, but recording has already been completed.

Will there be a clash between Scorpion and Johnny Cage?

Hiroyuki Sanada was recently at launch of the Shogun miniseries, based on the novel by James Clavell, with him as the protagonist. At the time, the actor was asked about his participation in Mortal Kombat 2 and whether his character Scorpion will face Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban.

Sanada’s response came with a laugh and confirmation that he would return in the sequel, without clarifying whether the long-awaited clash would occur: “I have no idea what to say. Yes, I just filmed in Australia,” he said.

Mortal Kombat (2021)

The first adaptation of the iconic fighting game series, available on HBO Max, tells the story of the character Cole Young, an MMA fighter hunted by the Emperor of Outworld, Shang Tsung and his warrior Sub-Zero.

Seeking protection, Cole ends up at Lord Raiden’s temple, where he is trained alongside other characters such as Kung Lao, Liu Kang and Kano to perfect his skills and face his enemy.

What to expect from the sequel

In the Mortal Kombat sequel we will see the final events of what was presented in the previous film. The production has already finished recording, but there is no release date yet. The first trailer should arrive soon. In fact, producer Todd Garner suggested in a post that the preview could break Deadpool and Wolverine’s viewership record.

Starring: Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Max Huang as Kung Lao and one of the new additions is CJ Bloomfield behind the heavy makeup to bring the bizarre Baraka.
