The 25-year-old athlete was champion in the 800 freestyle
Italian Simona Quadarella won the gold medal in the 800 meters freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar, this Saturday (17).
The 25-year-old athlete had already climbed to the top step of the podium in the 1,500 freestyle, confirming herself today as one of the stars of Italian swimming.
Quadarella completed the 800 meter race in 8:17.44, narrowly beating Germany’s Isabel Gose (8:17.53), who took silver. New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather, clocking 8:22.26, won bronze.
“It was one of the most tiring races I have ever run, but I am very happy. Now I can work with serenity in view of the Olympics”, declared Quadarella.
Italy already has 16 medals in Doha, three gold, 10 silver and three bronze, and is in fifth place in the overall ranking.
