I’ll admit it: When a new historical drama is announced in theaters or comes out on streaming, it immediately gets on my radar. I love big emotions, opulent costumes, heartbreaking drama and, ideally, happy endings. Added to this is a good dose of humor, as in the new one Star+ Surgeries and trickswhich is the perfect kind of light series.
So while you wait for the third season of Bridgerton, which arrives on Netflix in two parts, in May and June 2024, don’t miss Surgeries and Artimanhas. Maybe you’ll end up finding the series – which is loosely based on Oliver Twist – even better than the current melodrama phase: more pace, more adventure, less soap opera.
What is the story of Surgeries and Artimanhas?
Anyone who knows Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickens, surely knows the main character: the teenagers Dodger and Oliver are part of the London gang of thieves led by Fagin. In the Surgery and Gambit series, Jack Dawkins (protagonist of game of Thrones, Thomas Brodie-Sangster) uses his skills many years later as a surgeon in the Australian colonies. His criminal past is just a dark shadow, until one day Fagin (David ThewlisRemus Lupine from Harry Potter), who was believed to be dead, appears before him.
