Valdene Mendes launches anti-racist children’s literature

The book “Sol, the black princess” was inspired by the need to create a black character who reflected on prejudices, on Afro culture in Brazil and on the world and its diversity.

The work “Sol, a Princesa Negra” will be launched in March 2024, together with the publisher Autoografia, in the city of Curvelo, MG. Written by Valdene Mendes, the launch will take place on 03/22/2024, at the Enny Guimarães de Paula Cultural Center, in Praça Central do Brasil, at 7pm and will be open to the public.

The book “Sol, the Black Princess” was born from the need to create a black character, in which various social, ethnic-racial aspects could be worked, enhancing the culture and the importance that Africans and their Afro descendants represent for the humanity and, above all, for Brazilian culture, provoking reflections on the ideology of color and Afro-Brazilian culture.

It is with affection that the author invites each reader to be part of this story and to help “Sol, the black princess” build a better world, where people and diversity can be respected.

According to the author: “After all, every reader has the right to be equal, but no one is the same as another. Every reader, every human being must be respected in his diversity and his values and principles must be above any prejudice , racism or ethno-racial differences.”
